Full Job Description

This position is located in the Office of the Under Secretary of War for Research & Engineering (OUSW(R&E)).

The USW(R&E) serves as the Chief Technology Officer and is responsible for research, development, and prototyping activities within the Department of War (DoW).

In order to qualify for this position, you must meet the requirements described below.

You may qualify at the NH-III (GS 12/13) level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the NH-II (GS-11) grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrates your ability in: 1) Researching, analyzing, interpreting and applying rules, regulations, and procedures; 2) Developing strategies to manage budgets and identify risk; 3) Developing long-term financial forecasts and scenario planning; 4) Planning and executing complex projects and studies.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Incumbents typical work assignments may include the following: Supports the execution of complex financial reconciliations of obligations, expenditures, and disbursements across multiple funding streams.

Conducts detailed cost-benefit and trend analyses to support program evaluations and inform resource allocation recommendations.

Provides critical support to year-end closeout procedures, ensuring all accounts are balanced and compliant with federal mandates and timelines.

Prepares financial data and briefing materials for presentation to management by senior staff.
