DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Work under the area manager on the following tasks and responsibilities.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Query large data sets from SAP, analyze the data, and prepare financial reports.
- Perform accounting functions such as journal entries, reviewing support for journal entries, year-end accruals, reconciliations of the trial balance, variance analysis, and other technical accounting duties
- Use spreadsheet software to create dashboards, analyses, data forecasts, cash flows, and expense and budget analysis
- Request and validate for adequacy or prepare documents in response to audits, monitoring, and reviews; provide guidance to responses and follow-up requests
- Executes internal review programs, communicates findings to management, and prepares draft reports which include formal recommendations to management for review and implementation
- Acts as a liaison to assigned City departments to provide assistance in handling inquiries and problems.
- Assists with the coordination and fulfillment of compliance and audit requests.
- Participants in improvements to citywide operations and processes.
- Reviews, analyzes, and recommends enhancements to financial programs and systems.
- Assists with preparation of ad-hoc, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
- Coordinates with external agencies and City staff to ensure compliance with funding agreements, audit, and reporting requirements

Requirements
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Four years of professional experience in finance, economics, budget analysis or a closely related filed is required.
Substitutions: Experience cannot be substituted for the Bachelor’s degree requirement.
A Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or a closely related field may be substituted for two years of the above experience requirement.

Qualifications
Preferences will be given to candidates based on the following:
- Demonstrated ability to work independently under strict time deadlines; able to organize heavy workloads and prioritize multiple responsibilities; good organizational, verbal and written communication skills.
- Advance knowledge of SAP and Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- Knowledge of analytical financial operations and researching skills.
- Knowledge of and experience with municipal budgeting, accounting, auditing, and reporting procedures.
