The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a File Clerk for the CTVHCS. He/She is responsible for the daily task related to patient medical records.
This position is located in the Health Information Management in the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System, Temple, Texas.

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of general experience.
This experience must be progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates your ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the File Clerk position.
Examples of general experience would typically include, but are not limited to: knowledge of multiple systems and current computer technology and exceptional skills in utilizing imaging and uploading applications; knowledge of medical terminology and medical record file systems, procedures, record retention, and procedures relating to the transfer and other disposition of hard copy records; basic knowledge of regulations governing the release of information pertaining to patient confidentiality, and confidentiality of patient information; knowledge of filing sequence of both administrative and medical records is necessary to properly index and upload information; skill as a qualified typist/keyboarder required to perform data entry responsibilities; operate personal computers and computer terminal equipment and troubleshoots minor problems; demonstrate courteous, compassionate, caring, and respectful behavior when interacting in response to internal and external customer questions in person and/or on the telephone.
OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have 2 years above high school.
OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond high school.

Major Duties:
Major duties include, but not limited to: Receives, reviews, indexes, and uploads medical documentation received from VA providers and Non-VA providers incorporates the document into the correct veteran's record using the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS).
Utilizes the appropriate computer application (VistA, Fee Basis Claims System Doc Manager, and National VA contractor portal) to retrieve and index/upload medical documentation.
Reviews medical documents from Non-VA facilities, CBOCs, and VA.
Attaches the indexed/uploaded documents to a progress note viewable in CPRS, Ensures all necessary health/administration information is integrated into VistA through VistA Imaging software, utilizing PC/VistA application bridges.
Ensures results for stat or emergent requests are indexed/uploaded within established timeframes.
Ensures appropriate disposition of hard copy documents once indexing/uploading of documents has been verified utilizing appropriate shred boxes or Records Management directives.
Performs any related administrative duties not specifically described herein or any other duties as assigned related to Health Information Management Section or the mission of the service.
Ensures actions and interactions are within the guidelines of the Center's Employee Code of Conduct policy. Work Schedule: Friday 0730 AM -1600PM Virtual: This is not a virtual position.
