Job Description
Summary
This job involves keeping the buildings and grounds of a correctional center in good shape by fixing and maintaining things like heating, cooling, electrical, and plumbing systems, as well as handling outdoor tasks like mowing and snow removal.
It also includes managing tools, supplies, and records, and sometimes directing inmate work teams.
A good fit would be someone with hands-on experience in building trades who is reliable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a secure facility environment.
Key Requirements
- Graduation from high school, GED, four-year apprenticeship, or two-year technical school (or equivalent experience in air-conditioning, heating, or refrigeration)
- Four years of paid experience in heating, cooling, ventilation, or building trades like plumbing, electrical, carpentry, masonry, welding, or mechanics
- Ability to perform preventative maintenance on HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems
- Skills in general maintenance areas including refrigeration, ventilation, renovations, and groundskeeping (mowing, trimming, snow/ice removal)
- Experience maintaining inventories, logs, charts, and handling purchase orders
- Possible oversight of inmate work crews
- EPA certification as a refrigerant recycling technician if required for the position
Full Job Description
Under general supervision this position functions as a member of the maintenance department performing all general preventative maintenance. Performs routine maintenance on all HVAC, electrical and plumbing systems. Works in all areas of maintenance including, but not limited to, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration, masonry, carpentry, ventilation, and renovations. Maintains facility grounds to include mowing, trimming, snow and ice removal. Maintains detailed tool and supply inventories. Responsible for maintaining various logs, charts, and completion of purchase orders for the department. May oversee inmate work crews. Will perform other jobs as assigned.Counties: Doddridge, Harrison, Marion, Pleasants, Ritchie, Taylor, and Tyler

Qualifications
Training: Graduation from a standard four-year high school or GED or four year apprenticeship program or two year post secondary technical school.Substitution: Experience in air-conditioning, heating or refrigeration may be substituted for the required training on a year-for-year basis.
Experience: Four years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in heating, cooling, ventilation or the mechanical or building trades such as plumbing, electrical, carpentry, plasterer, painter, welder, machinist, mechanic or masonry work.
Special Requirement: Specific positions may require certification from a federal EPA approved testing organization as a certified technician required by the clean Air Act on refrigerant recycling.
