Full Job Description

This position is located with Bonneville Power Administration, in Transmission Field Service (TF), Transmission Services (T).

A successful candidate in the Facilities Maintenance Worker position will inspect, maintain, and make minor repairs to buildings and grounds, roads, railroad and transfer track, fuel dispensing facilities, alarm systems, heating and cooling, cranes, freight elevators, doors, windows, walkways, fences, sewers, water systems, oil containment systems, and drainage systems.

The screen-out element for this position is: Ability to do the work of Facilities Maintenance Worker is the ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision to 1) inspect, maintain, and make minor repairs to buildings and grounds, including roads, walks, and parking areas, 2) repair, install and adjust various types of fencing, including painting, floor maintenance, plumbing repairs, 3) grease and lubricate freight elevators, hoists, and bridge cranes, 4) maintain and repair of alarm systems and roofing systems, and 5) remodel of existing facilities.

Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. "Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience.

Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Working Conditions: Work is performed both indoors and outdoors under all prevailing weather conditions during the day or night.

Hazards include working around high voltage equipment, machinery with moving parts, and exposure to dust, grease, oil, metal or wood shavings, and other miscellaneous debris.

Work may be required at various heights, such as from scaffolding, motorized buckets, and ladders.

The work environment will occasionally include high noise levels or exposure to hazardous substances (i.e., asbestos, acids, PCBs, pesticides, mercury, etc.) that could, if precautions are not followed, pose a health risk.

Proper respiratory and safety equipment shall be worn when hazardous substances are being handled. The possibility of explosion or fire is ever-present.

The Facility Maintenance Worker normally works a standard workday and a standard workweek, but Facility priorities may require extended periods of overtime, including working weekends, holidays, and overnight travel away from headquarters.

Physical Requirements: Requires good balance while climbing on ladders and structures to perform repair duties and while accessing buckets.

Ability to stand an average of 30 minutes with a maximum of 1 hour uninterrupted. Walks on smooth and uneven surfaces for short distances. May walk on large 2" graveled substation yards.

Average 20-30 pounds, with occasional lift up to 100 pounds such as tools, sand, cement, crushed rock, pipe, lumber, railroad ties, etc.

Moves and positions items such as 32 gallon drums weighing approximately 350 pounds and nitrogen cylinder weighing 120 pounds using hand trucks; moves and positions heavy items such as 18 foot ladders and 5 gallon paint buckets.

Requires extensive bending to inspect and repair equipment and facilities. Grasps and handles large and small parts, equipment, and materials.

Manual dexterity required to use tools and equipment, handle parts, and adjust tension/torque on equipment and valves.

As a Facilities Maintenace Worker, you will: Performs painting of building structures, e.g. doors, window sashes, walls, etc. Builds shelves and makes repairs to building structures.

Does remodeling and maintaining of existing facilities.

Performs plumbing repairs, modifications to facilities, and maintains water systems (e.g., potable, well, purification, etc.) Repairs concrete surfaces by patching, dry-packing, curing and finishing as required for acceptable appearances.

Services and makes repairs or replacement to heating and air conditioning equipment, which includes changing filters, greasing and lubricating.

Greases and lubricates freight elevators, hoists, and bridge cranes. Performs maintenance and repair of alarm systems.

Performs maintenance of fuel dispensing facilities, which includes adjustment to, testing, and the changing of hoses and filters.

Maintains and replaces windows and doors, including adjustment of hinges, locking mechanisms, and lubrication of doors and hardware.

Repairs, installs and adjusts various types of fencing; including fence fabric, security wires, top rails, and truss supports.

Performs maintenance and repair of various roofing systems, including sheet metal and down spouts. Performs maintenance of grounds, including application of pesticides and fertilizers.

Performs maintenance of roads, walks, and parking areas including snow removal, sweeping, leveling, and grading.
