This job involves maintaining and repairing county buildings in Tacoma, Washington, by handling tasks like carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, painting, and basic equipment troubleshooting to keep facilities in good shape for employees and visitors.

How to be Successful in the Role:
Provide great customer service for our tenants and prioritize work orders while building your knowledge in facilities trades. Have a positive and enthusiastic work presence while working independently and while directly assisting experienced technicians and mechanics on various projects.
Your Future in this Role:
You will receive training and gain experience, including building trades knowledge, safety procedures, building orientation, computer applications, and much more, to help you become an experienced, well-rounded facilities professional.

Two or more years work experience in one or more of the building, mechanical, electrical, carpentry, plumbing, construction trades or related trades area and provide adequate documentation of such.
Additional education or experience may substitute for the recruiting requirements.
Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid Driver’s license.
Special Note:
Certain positions in this class may be required to possess or have the ability to obtain licenses required by the state, local, or federal code or regulations including but not limited to class III boiler operation license and state asbestos worker certification.
Peak and prolonged physical effort may be required on a regular basis in some positions of this class.
Frequent lifting or carrying objects up to 50 pounds may be required in some positions.
Employees are subject to 24-hour on call availability and must be able to work any shift at any location as required.
As a condition of employment, the applicant will need to authorize and complete a background check. Information received from the background check is reviewed case-by-case basis and will not necessarily remove an applicant from consideration.
Satisfactory physical condition, as evidenced by a county-approved physical examination, may be required before appointment to the position.
