York Technical College, a member of the South Carolina Technical and Comprehensive Education System, is a public, two-year institution of higher education that offers a variety of associate degrees, diplomas, and certificates. Through maximizing student success, the College seeks to contribute to the economic growth and development of York, Lancaster, and Chester counties and of the State.

The Facilities Maintenance Manager manages the Facilities Management maintenance department to ensure the effective operation and upkeep of all physical assets and infrastructure. Oversees planning, scheduling, and execution of maintenance projects, and supervises skilled trades and general maintenance workers to ensure timely and high-quality completion of repairs, maintenance, and construction work. Collaborates with other departments to ensure alignment with overall institutional goals and compliance with safety and regulatory standards.


The Facilities Maintenance Manager performs the following functions:

Directs, plans, and supervises the activities of staff engaged in maintenance, general repair or construction activities that involve one or more trades, such as carpentry, electricity, painting, HVAC, and plumbing.

Assign tasks, set performance goals, and conduct regular performance evaluations. Oversees screening, selection, training, and professional development for employees.

Communicates expectations and standards of performance. Assigns work orders and tasks to employees daily. Reviews work to ensure compliance.

Responsible for EPMS performance evaluations, leave, and time keeping records for staff.

Develops and implements a comprehensive maintenance plan for all facilities. Schedule and coordinate preventive maintenance activities to ensure equipment and systems are in optimal condition.

Develop and manage the maintenance budget, ensuring cost-effective allocation of resources. Responsible for sourcing supplies, services, and contracts for maintenance.

Maintain detailed records of equipment maintenance, repairs, and inspections. Generate reports on maintenance activities, costs, and equipment performance.

Evaluates and inspects buildings, equipment, and infrastructure. Makes recommendations for repair, renewal/replacement, or renovations.

Plans, executes, and oversees multiple small maintenance construction projects simultaneously.

Assists with the design, cost estimating, and planning of larger renovation and infrastructure construction projects.

Reviews plans and specifications and makes recommendations for facility standards to be implemented in projects.

Manages the Energy Management System for the College and implements energy-saving initiatives and recommended upgrades to enhance efficiency.

Assist with event management in regard to setups, layouts, availability of utilities, and coordination of HVAC for afterhours events.

Oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of all facility equipment, including HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical systems, and machinery.

Keeps equipment and College fleet of vehicles well maintained. Coordinates storage for all department equipment, tools, and instruments in the warehouse.

Maintains a current inventory of all assigned equipment.

Plans and manages moves and transfers of office and classroom furnishings and equipment for all College campuses including state surplus and junk.

Communicate and collaborate with Facilities and departments College wide to coordinate maintenance activities that may impact their operations.

Provide regular updates to facility management on the status of maintenance projects and ongoing initiatives. Develop and implement emergency response plans for unexpected facility issues.

Coordinate with relevant teams to address urgent maintenance needs promptly.

Ensure the facilities comply with all relevant safety and environmental regulations.

Manages asbestos abatement programs, water system regulatory compliance, and indoor air quality (IAQ) compliance consistent with local, state, and federal regulations.

Stays informed about changes in regulations and adjust maintenance practices accordingly.

  • Requirements

    A high school diploma and at least five years of professional experience in facility maintenance, with increasing levels of responsibility. Experience with
    building repairs and maintenance. Experience in a supervisory role.

    Qualifications

    • A degree in facilities maintenance, facilities management, engineering, business administration, or a related field.
    • Certifications such as Certified Facility Manager (CFM) or Facility Management Professional (FMP).
