Full Job Description

You will serve as a FABRIC WORKER SUPERVISOR in the TEMPORARY SERVICES SHOP (CODE 990), PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job.

Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE * Plans, coordinates, supervises, and reviews the work of subordinate personnel to meet schedules.

* Ability to support and explain management programs to subordinates.

* Utilizes calibrated radio frequency heat sealers, ultrasonic sealers, wedge welders, seals, proper vent closures, hepa filters, negative air pressure and computerized sewing machines.

* Assures safety and housekeeping practices are observed.

* Interprets and check plans, blueprints, sketches and information received from supervisors and other officials assigned to the work area to fabricate enclosures for all situations encountered.

  • You will be responsible for the design, fabrication, inspection, installation, removal, and maintenance of nuclear and non-nuclear containments and enclosures.
  • You will be responsible for supervising Fabric Workers/Containment Fabricators, through work leaders in accomplishing work.
  • You will be responsible for manufacturing and repairing all shipyard and containment project support items.
  • You will analyze and balance the workforce by periodically reviewing the shift assignments, work progress and work operations.
