This position provides lead-level oversight of daily Transportation Equipment Fund (TEF) parts for the Northwest Region and ensures compliance with purchasing policies and inventory controls.

The role coordinates the procurement, receipt, storage, inventory, and issuance of equipment parts using the Fleet Equipment Management System (M5), oversees ordering and distribution across seven regional TEF shops, maintains the accuracy of critical parts and payment data, and leads the annual physical inventory process.

Through data analysis, process oversight, and strong inventory controls, this position supports cost efficiency, asset accountability, and uninterrupted fleet operations that directly contribute to maintaining Washington’s transportation system.

A strong candidate will demonstrate experience in inventory and parts management, leadership of technical staff, procurement and vendor communication, and financial and organizational skills.What to ExpectThe typical schedule is Monday –Thursday, 6:00 AM – 4:30 PM but may require an adjusted work schedule or overtime to meet business needs.

This position participates in a year-round, rotating standby schedule shared among designated leads and supervisors.

Travel within the region is expected and may be required on a regular, sporadic, or as needed basis.

Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Equipment Technician Lead will:

  • Lead, instruct, plan, schedule, and assign work and operations for the Corson Shop Equipment Technician 3 Parts Technicians.
  • Manage the procurement, receipt, inventory control, and distribution of automotive, light truck, heavy equipment, and marine replacement parts according to workload and priorities of Maintenance Operations.
  • Draft, receive, and store stock orders to maintain inventory needs.
  • Receive, fill, and issue stock orders for seven outlying area shops.
  • Maintain and issue bench stock items, shop supplies, tools, and decals, ensuring they are stored securely.
  • Post bids on Washington Enterprise Business Solutions (WEBS) to procure necessary equipment and parts.
  • Match, code, file, and process payable invoices, ensuring timely completion of P-Card entries.
  • Conduct annual physical parts inventories, generate reports, and maintain accurate records in FEMS.
  • Advise area shops on inventory maintenance, process returns, and set up new part numbers and bin locations.
  • Meet with vendors and sales representatives to compare prices, analyze data, and recommend procurement decisions.


Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity, the following competencies are required:

  • Inventory and parts management: Knowledge of inventory control practices, parts procurement, storage, and issuance. Experience maintaining accurate stock levels and minimizing obsolete inventory.
  • Leadership & Team Management: Skills in planning, scheduling, and supervising work of technical staff to meet operational priorities.
  • Purchasing & Vendor Relations: Knowledge of general procurement practices and procedures. Skills in communicating with vendors, evaluating pricing and availability, and supporting purchasing decisions.
  • Financial & Organizational skills: Experience in tracking financial transactions, processing invoices, and maintaining organized and safe work areas.
  • Growth Mindset: Actively demonstrates a commitment to learning and growth.
  • Service-Oriented: Initiate action to meet the needs of others.


In addition to the above competencies, the following are also required:

  • A valid driver’s license and the ability to operate state-owned vehicles.
  • Ability to operate a forklift to safely transport parts inventory and equipment.
  • Ability to report in service to the assigned duty station within 60 minutes of an after-hours call.
  • Ability to work alternate, emergency, and standby shifts as assigned.


It is preferred that qualified candidates also demonstrate:

  • State or Enterprise Systems: Experience using financial, procurement, or inventory management systems (e.g., FEMS, PCard, WEBS) to manage transactions and inventory.
  • High-Volume or Public Sector Operations: Experience performing inventory, procurement, or inventory financial duties in a deadline driven, high-volume environment such as a public agency or large organization.
  • Analytical & Reporting Skills: Skills in generating reports, analyzing trends, and making recommendations to optimize inventory and purchasing processes.
  • Continuous Improvement & Service Orientation: Knowledge or experience demonstrating proactive problem-solving, improvement, and responsiveness to internal and external stakeholders.
