What you will be doing:In this role, you will provide vital support by operating heavy equipment to keep airport runways, taxiways, and roads clear and safe, especially during winter conditions.
As an important part of our Airfield Maintenance team you’ll perform pavement and facility maintenance, support construction projects, and respond to emergencies to ensure Fairbanks International Airport remains fully operational and compliant with FAA standards.

FLEXIBLY STAFFED
This position is flexibly staffed. This vacancy may be filled at either the Equipment Operator 1 or 2 level, depending on the applicant's training and/or experience.
The full range of salaries is listed above. Starting salary will be determined by the level the position is hired at.
If filled at Level 1, promotion to the Level 2 will occur upon successful completion of the probationary period and required training, as well as the applicant meeting the minimum qualifications of the higher job class.

COMMERCIAL DRIVER'S LICENSE REQUIRED
This position requires the incumbent to possess a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) per federal regulations (49 CFR 383), to register with the federal CDL Drug & Alcohol Testing Clearinghouse prior to performing safety-sensitive duties, and to provide consent to the Employer to review driver information in accordance with 49 CFR 382.
Equipment Operator Journey 1
A Class B Alaska Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required at the time of hire. The proposed appointee must successfully obtain a Class A CDL within 180 days of hire and sign an agreement to this effect as a condition of employment.
Equipment Operator Journey 2
A Class A Alaska Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required at time of hire. A conditional hire approval can only be given for endorsements.
This means that the proposed appointee must successfully obtain N-Tanker and Hazmat endorsements within 90 days of hire and sign an agreement to this effect as a condition of employment.
DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION & PUBLIC FACILITIES DRUG AND ALCOHOL POLICY
Selected candidates must comply with the DOT&PF Drug and Alcohol Policy and procedures and CANNOT start work in a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) position until Management Services or designee has received confirmation of the proposed appointee passing the required Pre-Employment drug test.
According to federal regulations, all violations and refusals will be maintained with the Federal CDL Drug & Alcohol Testing Clearinghouse database.
EDUCATIONTo verify education is being used to meet and/or support the required minimum qualifications/competencies, you must fill in the Education section of the application.

Copies of transcripts are required to verify educational credentials used to meet or support the minimum qualifications/competencies for a position and are required with each application.
