Requirements

In this position, you will engage in specialized tasks aimed at the upkeep of the Weiser State Forest, which encompasses its lands, facilities, and recreational picnic areas. Your responsibilities will involve operating a variety of vehicles and machinery, including trucks, snow groomers, and heavy equipment such as graders, track loaders, bulldozers, and backhoes. Additionally, you will utilize hand mowers and lawn tractors to maintain the landscape. A key aspect of your role will be to conduct routine servicing, preventative maintenance, and some repair work on the equipment assigned to you, ensuring that all machinery operates efficiently and safely. This multifaceted role is essential for preserving the natural beauty and functionality of the forest, providing a welcoming environment for visitors.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

This is a seasonal, full-time position with no healthcare benefits. There is not an option to buy into health care benefits.

The season runs from approximately 9 March 2026 until 13 November 2026 at which time the employee will be placed on leave without pay.

The employee will automatically be returned to employment March 2027.

  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

  • Qualifications

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

    • One year of experience as an Equipment Operator A (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
    • Two years of experience in the operation of heavy construction and specialized maintenance equipment used at this level with a gross vehicle weight of 32,001 pounds or more; or
    • Any equivalent combination of experience or training.

    Condition of Employment:
    • This position requires possession of a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed.

    • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
