Are you ready to take the first step toward a rewarding career? PennDOT is seeking a Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee in Snyder County! As a Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee, you will build the skills and knowledge you need to become a proficient Transportation Equipment Operator with on-the-job training. This position is responsible for operating highway construction and maintenance equipment and performing a variety of manual laboring duties on a highway or bridge maintenance crew. Requirements

The incumbent in this role will be trained for licensing and certification to operate heavy construction equipment which includes at least the following: Heavy Truck/Tandem Axle (HT/TA) and loader (LD) (bucket capacity of 4.5 cubic yards or less) on highway or bridge maintenance crews. You will learn to perform, and document required pre-and post-operation checks and make necessary field adjustments to permit safe operation and minimize wear. You will also operate a variety of hand and foot controls, utilize seat belts and install and remove tire chains on dual wheels.

You will receive instruction on a variety of manual laboring duties using both motorized and non-motorized hand tools such as shovels, rakes, hammers, lutes, chain saws, compressors, jack hammers, tampers, hand mowers and trimmers, routers, patching machines and heating kettles. You will be expected to select and use tools properly for job to minimize wear and breakage and to properly report missing or broken equipment. It will be essential for you to maintain a safe work environment for self, co-workers, and the motoring public by following all safety procedure

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • Work hours subject to change due to weather/season.
  • Travel and overtime may be required.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $41,526.00 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver’s License or equivalent.
  • This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver Learner’s Permit with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed on the first day of work.
  • This position requires possession of a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations on the first day of work.

  • This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
