Requirements

In this role, you will be responsible for operating various heavy construction and maintenance equipment across a diverse array of projects managed by the Bituminous District. This includes driving motorized vehicles within the specified limits for an Equipment Operator A, facilitating the transportation of equipment, fuel, and materials such as stone and earth, while overseeing loading and unloading processes. Duties will entail towing trailers with a maximum loaded weight of 10,000 lbs, maneuvering through congested roads, and operating truck/trailer combinations on secondary roads throughout western Pennsylvania, including areas around Pittsburgh.

Additionally, you will position and secure equipment like backhoes, excavators, and dozers on trailers under the guidance of a Class A CDL holder. Responsibilities extend to utilizing this equipment for small abandoned mine reclamation projects, as well as installing mine drainage systems and filling mine cave holes in residential areas. Furthermore, the operator will assist the Bureau of Forestry and the Bureau of State Parks with various construction and maintenance tasks.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $36,108 (before taxes).

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Six months experience in the operation and maintenance of large vans, buses and single-chassis trucks with a gross vehicle weight of 10,001 pounds or more; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirement:
  • This position requires possession of a valid Class C Pennsylvania driver's license.
