Full Job Description

Are you passionate about promoting equality, diversity, and nondiscrimination in the workplace? The Department of Labor & Industry is eager to welcome an Equal Opportunity Specialist 1 to assist with administering equal opportunity (EO) and non-discrimination programs, Limited English Proficiency (LEP) plans, and related initiatives within the department. This position is responsible for monitoring, investigating, and supporting compliance of workforce development programs and projects that receive federal or state funds. Requirements

In this role, you will assist senior level specialists with monitoring and enforcing laws and regulations related to EO and discrimination in employment.

Work involves analyzing, processing, and resolving complaints from individuals who believe they have been discriminated against on the basis race, color, national origin, limited English proficiency, age, sex, or disability.

You will be responsible for meeting with complainants, conducting initial interviews, determining the depth and breathe of the investigation, as well as identifying witnesses or documentation relevant to the investigation.

You will also have the opportunity to develop and participate in the delivery of training and workshops related to EO, non-discrimination, LEP plans, and disability or pregnancy accommodations.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Conducting on site and remote compliance reviews and audits
  • Compiling and analyzing workforce and client data, and drafting reports of findings
  • Assisting with the development and implementation of the agency’s Limited English Proficiency (LEP) plan

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Work schedule may be negotiable based on operational needs.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time.

    In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.

    If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the Human Resource Management Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • One year as an Equal Opportunity Assistant or Human Resource Assistant 2 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • One year of paraprofessional analytical experience in an equal opportunity or human resource program; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.


Other Requirements:
