Job Description

Summary

This job involves helping local health departments in West Virginia track and investigate diseases, improve data reporting, and support public health planning through analysis and research.

It also includes assisting state health surveyors with data compilation.

A good fit would be someone with a background in public health or sciences who enjoys working with data and supporting community health efforts.

Key Requirements

  • Master's degree in epidemiology, public health, biology, physical, behavioral, natural, or veterinary sciences from an accredited institution
  • OR Graduation from an accredited nursing school with state licensure and three years of paid epidemiology experience (e.g., disease investigation, risk assessment)
  • OR Substitution: Bachelor's degree in biology, physical, behavioral, or natural sciences plus two years of paid epidemiology experience
  • Experience in case investigations and providing training to local health departments
  • Skills in data analysis, research, and ensuring data quality and timely reporting
  • Ability to compile data and reports for health facilities surveyors and state public health planning

Kanawha County

Supports the Bureau for Public Health (BPH) data modernization initiatives. Provides epidemiological support to local health departments to include case investigations and training. Supports the improvement of data quality and works with local health departments to ensure timely reporting. Provides analysis and research for state level public health planning. Supports Health Facilities Surveyors by compiling data and reports upon request.

Qualifications

Training: Master's degree in epidemiology, public health, biology, physical, behavioral, natural, or veterinary sciences from an accredited college or university.
OR
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing with state licensure and three years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in conducting epidemiology.
Substitution: Bachelor's degree in biology, physical, behavioral, or natural sciences from an accredited college or university, AND two years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in conducting epidemiology, including disease investigation, risk assessment or environmental epidemiology may substitute for the required training.
