Employee will be assigned to the Office of Abandoned Mine Lands (AML), Construction group in the Fayetteville regional office.

Employee will report directly to the Environmental Resources Specialist Supervisor and performs duties at the training level, providing a wide variety of complex work in the assigned area.


Duties include:

  • Monitor and conduct field investigations of all facets of AML Reclamation projects being accomplished by contractors.

  • Employee will collect and review technical/scientific data related to environmental/natural resource quality and assist in preparing the detailed findings. This includes collecting, analyzing and evaluating data in the area of assignment.

  • Employee will take photographs of all the reclamation sites assigned to them.

  • Employee will perform other related duties as required.


Ideal applicant will display the following qualities:

  • Knowledge of environmental/natural resources laws and regulations which apply to the assigned projects.
  • Have skill in drawing final value conclusions and in justifying and documenting conclusions for negotiating purposes.

  • Have the ability to prepare, review and evaluate comprehensive detailed reports of field work.

  • The ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of individuals both orally and in writing.

  • Be able to read and comprehend detailed plans and specifications for the reclamation sites.

:
  • The recommended candidate will be subject to a search of his or her motor vehicle record (MVR) prior to being hired. Regular attendance is an essential part of this position.

  • Qualifying applicants will be required to complete an internet based profile assessment to compare the applicant's thinking and reasoning skills, behavioral traits and the occupational interests against the traits determined to be important to the posted position.

  • Employees involved with specific DEP programs subject to the surface mining control and reclamation act (SMCRA) of 1977 must file prior to final appointment and annually thereafter, a statement of employment and financial interest (OSM23).

Qualifications

Training: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

OR

Substitution: Additional full-time or equivalent part-time paid professional experience as described below may be substituted for the required training at a rate of one (1) year of experience for every thirty (30) semester hours of training.

AND

Experience: Two (2) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid professional experience in the acquisition, preservation, protection and enhancement of environmental/natural resources, environmental protection or in an agency-specific area related to environmental impact.

OR

Substitution: Graduate coursework from an accredited college or university may be substituted for the required experience at the rate of fifteen (15) semester hours for every one (1) year of experience.
