Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position.

This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education(external link) at the time the degree was obtained.

Minimum Qualifications: To qualify at the GS-13 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level, which must include the following experience: conducting scientific evaluations of exposure to environmental contamination; conducting stake holder engagement to federal, state, tribal, local and territorial health and environmental agencies; and assessing environmental health data associated with environmental contamination.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Major Duties:

As a Environmental Health Scientist you will: Provide environmental health and technical advice and appropriate recommendations regarding potential human health impacts resulting from exposure or potential exposure to hazardous substances.

Responsible for developing and assisting with the development of public and petition health assessments and/or consultations for complex and/or politically sensitive sites.

Develop, prepare, and present technical materials for publication and distribution to other Federal, state, and local agencies, and to the public.

Maintains scientific and technical liaison with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), other Federal, State Tribal, Local, and Territorial Agencies, and other stakeholders
