Job Description

Summary

This job involves overseeing nondestructive testing for nuclear-powered submarines at a naval shipyard, ensuring that inspections and procedures meet strict safety standards to prevent defects in critical components.

You'll train and manage teams of technicians, review their work, and develop guidelines for testing methods like visual checks and dye penetrants.

Full Job Description

You will serve as a ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (NUCLEAR) in the NDT ENGINEERING BRANCH, WELDING and NDT ENGINEERING DIVISION of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

GS-12 Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: * Experience working as a certified Nondestructive Test examiner in several nondestructive test methods as required by NAVSEA 250-1500-1.

* Experience conducting training in nondestructive testing and allied manufacturing processes such as welding, forging, casting, etc.

* Experience managing a Nondestructive Test program and Nondestructive Test personnel.

* Experience teaching and mentoring Nondestructive Test personnel in Nondestructive Test methods Visual Testing (VT), Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT), and Magnetic Particle Testing (MT).

GS-11 Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: * Experience with material, fabrication and installation work involved in overhaul and refueling of nuclear powered submarines.

* Experience working as a certified Nondestructive Test Inspector in several nondestructive test methods as required by NAVSEA 250-1500-1.

* Experience evaluating the adherence of materials and workmanship to desired specifications of requirements.

* Experience auditing engineering work procedures and reviewing work performed by tradesman and production shops.

  • You will be responsible for insuring that all personnel conducting non-destructive tests are thoroughly cognizant of the required procedures and standards.
  • You will be responsible for determining need, planning, and development of Shipyard instructions for the implementation of NAVSEA non-destructive test certification requirements.
  • You will be responsible for final review and approval of the training requirements for the nondestructive test personnel.
  • You will assure by technical evaluations that nondestructive testing of ship systems and equipment follows prescribed procedures and approved techniques by surveying inspection and tests in progress.
