Job Description

Summary

This role involves leading teams to analyze how ocean conditions affect underwater warfare systems, developing methods to measure and improve submarine technologies, and collaborating with experts to integrate new ideas into naval operations.

It's ideal for experienced engineers or scientists passionate about ocean science and defense who enjoy mentoring others and communicating complex ideas clearly.

The position requires strong leadership in technical problem-solving within a high-level government setting.

Key Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-12/13 or ND-04, including conceiving and executing measurements and analysis plans
  • Expertise in acoustic technology, systems engineering, tactical oceanography, and submarine systems

Full Job Description

You will serve as a CHIEF ANALYST in the Deputy Technical Directors Office (TDB) of NAVUNSEAWARCENDIV NEWPORT RI. This position is part of the Warfare Centers Personnel Demonstration Project.

The ND-5 pay band encompasses positions equivalent to GS-14 and GS-15.

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower pay band, ND-04 (GS-12/13 equivalent) in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector: conceiving and executing measurements and analysis plans, leveraging knowledge of acoustic technology, systems engineering, tactical oceanography, and submarine systems to lead interdisciplinary teams in solving problems and integrating prototype capabilities.

A demonstrated ability to effectively communicate technical information to both warfighting and technical communities is essential.

  • You will be responsible for developing and implementing analysis methods in order to quantify the impact of the ocean environment on USW system performance.
  • You will serve as the government technical authority for analysis for the Naval Undersea Warfare Center’s Tactical Oceanography Center of Excellence.
  • You will be responsible for prototyping analysis methods that integrate oceanographic variability and understanding of workflows for responsible for prototyping analysis methods that integrate oceanographic variability and understanding of workflows.
  • You will collaborate with NUWC Chief Engineers and NAVSEA Technical Warrant Holders.
  • You will ensure that TACO analysis efforts employ and leverage validated and authoritative means to model USW systems.
  • You will be responsible for leading and mentoring a diverse technical workforce in efforts to operationalize oceanographic concepts.
  • You will display detailed knowledge of underwater acoustics, oceanography, USW systems, submarine mission sets and tactics.
  • You will act as the NUWC lead for all TACO analysis collaborations with university affiliated research centers (UARCs), federally funded research and development centers, academia, and other warfare centers.
