WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
As an Emergency Services Dispatcher 2 with the Alaska State Troopers, you will be expected to:
  • Maintain positivity and resiliency while providing oversite of the daily operations of subordinate dispatch personnel.

  • Model the highest level of professionalism, compassion, and support to individuals contacted in the line of duty. This includes, but is not limited to, the public, field enforcement units, civilian staff, other agencies, and coworkers.

  • Display the ability to perform all duties of subordinate staff.

  • Train, mentor, build, and lead a high performing team of individuals with varied backgrounds in a high stress, fast-paced, always changing environment.

The Emergency Services Dispatcher 2 position is based in Fairbanks and located at 1979 Peger Road in a secure facility. The work environment is fast-paced – we answer more than 135,000 calls per year.

Each day is dynamic with the opportunity to interact with people from many different backgrounds and provide life-saving assistance in many challenging situations.

You will be part of a team of dispatchers who truly are the heart of the telecommunications services provided by the Department of Public Safety.

  • Applicants who demonstrate skill in multitasking and prioritizing emergency and non-emergency situations under rapidly changing circumstances, demonstrated by a minimum of 3 years’ experience in an emergency dispatch center.

Requirements

Three years of experience as an Emergency Services Dispatcher 1 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.

Special Note:
Specific positions in this job class may require incumbents to be Emergency Medical, Police, or Firefighting Dispatch certified.

Shift work may be required.

A background investigation will be required upon initial employment.

This job class requires individuals to multitask and maintain emotional control and composure to work effectively during emergencies, crisis situations, and/or extremely stressful conditions.

Qualifications

COVER LETTER

AT TIME OF INTERVIEW:
  • A typing test demonstrating the ability to type 40 words per minute must be submitted with the application. There are many free websites where typing tests can be performed and recorded.

  • List of three (3) professional references, two of which are from a current or former direct supervisor.


SPECIAL NOTE:

  • Specific positions in this job class may require incumbents to be Emergency Medical, Police, or Fire Dispatch certified. Communications Training Officer Certification (or the ability to obtain this certification within 6 months of hire) is a requirement for this position.

  • This position requires individuals to multitask and maintain emotional control and composure to work effectively during emergencies, crisis situations, and/or extremely stressful conditions.

BACKGROUND CHECK

This position requires the incumbent to submit to a fingerprint based criminal history background check. Due to the sensitive nature of this position, and required access to APSIN, an applicant with criminal convictions will not move forward in the selection process.
