Full Job Description

This vacancy is for a GS-0089-12, Emergency Management Specialist located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, SECTOR LAKE MICHIGAN EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT in WILLOWBROOK, ILLINOIS.

To qualify at the GS-12 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the federal sector.

Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis. Experience managing projects and resourses.

Setting work priorities, determining short and long term goals and strategies to achieve them. Monitoring progress and evaluates outcomes. Evaluating technical information related to the position.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Major Duties:

You will serve as an Emergency Management Specialist and be responsible for performing emergency management work including but not limited to ensure Continuity of Operations (COOP), coordinating with other entities, the prevention of, protection from, preparedness for, response to, recovery from and, or mitigation of intentional and, or unintentional crises, disasters, other humanitarian emergencies, hazards, or natural and manmade/technological (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, high-yield explosives) incidents.

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team.

Typical work assignments include: Develops and prepares emergency management polices, plans, risk assessments, and SOP's.

Reviews Emergency Management plans, processes, SOP's or guidance for compliance with Emergency Management directives and regulations.

Provides technical advice on activities associated with natural or man made disasters. Prepares plans to ensure the continued essential functions during all hazards.

Coordinates and executes emergency response and preparedness exercises in accordance with the Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP).

Analyzes, reviews and implements activities supporting Continuity of Operations (COOP).

Coordinates emergency response and preparedness training and manages component programs and activities during a response.
