Job Description

Summary

This job involves fixing and maintaining electronic communication systems on Navy ships to keep them ready for action, including troubleshooting issues on-site or remotely and providing training to ship crews.

It's based in a naval repair facility in Japan, where medical and dental care is limited, so it's ideal for experienced electronics technicians who thrive in high-stakes military environments and are comfortable with overseas assignments.

A good fit would be someone with hands-on experience in satellite and radio systems who enjoys problem-solving under pressure.

Key Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-11 (for GS-12) or GS-09 (for GS-11) in federal or equivalent service
  • Experience providing distance and on-site technical support for shipboard Communication Satellite Systems
  • Skills in troubleshooting and maintaining HF, UHF, SHF, and EHF electronic communications equipment
  • Ability to repair malfunctioning shipboard electronic systems to restore combat readiness
  • Proficiency in performing casualty repair (CASREP) technical assistance for equipment malfunctions
  • Experience testing satellite communications for networking, timing, and synchronization
  • Capability to develop test schedules and manage technical issues during ship maintenance and inspections

Full Job Description

You will serve as an ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN in the PRODUCTION DIVISION of the NAVAL SHIP REPAIR FACILITY. ***ACCESS TO MEDICAL AND DENTAL CARE IN JAPAN IS EXTREMELY LIMITED.

  • You will repair malfunctioning shipboard electronic systems to restore ship to combat readiness.
  • You will manage technical issues for ship maintenance and repair activities during final acceptance testing, certification, or inspection.
  • You will perform casualty repair (CASREP) technical assistance to correct equipment malfunctions or deficiencies.
  • You will troubleshoot and maintain High Frequency (HF), Ultra High Frequency (UHF), Super High Frequency (SHF), and Extremely High Frequency (EHF) electronic communications equipment and systems.
  • You will troubleshoot electronic engineering systems to identify ship repair specifications.
  • You will perform testing of ship electronic systems to solve design and operational problems.
  • You will test satellite communications to ensure proper networking, timing, and synchronization.
  • You will develop test schedules for branch assets and operations personnel.
