Job Description

Summary

This job involves working as an electronics technician on naval ship weapon systems, focusing on maintaining, repairing, and testing the MK 15 PHALANX and SeaRAM close-in weapon systems to ensure they function properly for the U.S.

Pacific Fleet. The role includes troubleshooting technical issues, providing expert guidance to teams and ship crews, and supporting repairs in Japan.

It's a good fit for someone with hands-on experience in military electronics or ship systems who enjoys problem-solving in a high-stakes environment.

Key Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience at GS-11 level or equivalent in technical services for ship systems performance, operation, maintenance, repair, and testing
  • Hands-on experience with MK 15 PHALANX CIWS (Mods 21, 22-25, 26 Block 1 Baseline 2) and SeaRAM weapon systems (Mods 31-33)
  • Ability to conduct inspections and assessments of ship self-defense systems
  • Knowledge of multiple engineering disciplines including radar principles, RF theory, and fire control computing
  • Experience providing technical oversight, management, and direction to diverse workforces
  • Skills in identifying deficiencies, developing repair plans, and providing on-site technical assistance/training to ship personnel
  • Willingness to work in Japan with limited access to medical and dental care

Full Job Description

You will serve as an ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN on the MK 15 PHALANX and SeaRAM close-in weapon system (CIWS) in the Weapons Systems Branch (Code294) of NAVAL SHIP REPAIR FACILITY JAPAN REGIONAL MAINTENANCE CENTER.

GS-12 Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector demonstrating technical and engineering services on the performance, operation, maintenance, repair and testing/certification of ship systems; and conducting inspections/assessments of ship self-defense systems MK 15 Mod 21, 22-25 and 26 Block 1 Baseline 2 Close in Weapons System (CIWS) and MK 15 Mod 31-33 SeaRAM Weapon system.

  • You will resolve technical problems consisting of multiple engineering disciplines including but not limited to radar principles, RF theory, Fire Control computing and theory, etc.
  • You will provide technical oversight, management, and direction to a highly diverse workforce.
  • You will provide technical and engineering services in the performance, operation, maintenance, Depot-Level repair and modernization, system testing/certification and Fleet Technical Support of the MK 15 PHALANX and SeaRAM (CIWS).
  • You will serve as a fleet technical assistant (FTA) technician subject matter expert (SME) in the 7th Fleet Area of Responsibility (AOR) for the MK 15 PHALANX and SeaRAM close-in weapon system (CIWS) and all subsystems.
  • You will identify, analyze, and document deficiencies necessary to develop comprehensive repair plans in support of Depot-Level work packages and ships systems lifecycle programs for the MK 15 PHALANX and SeaRAM close-in weapon system (CIWS).
  • You will provide immediate authoritative technical assistance/training to ships force personnel on urgent mission degrading casualties or similar problems for the MK 15 PHALANX and SeaRAM close-in weapon system (CIWS).
  • You will provide on-site resolution and/or correction of production, performance, or quality deficiencies on the MK 15 PHALANX and SeaRAM close-in weapon system (CIWS).
