Full Job Description

You will serve as an Electronics Industrial Controls Mechanic Leader in the Pipe Shop, Production Resources Department of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job.

Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE, such as: Troubleshooting and repairing advanced electronic equipment to the component level.

Giving appropriate skills training utilizing shop training tools, such as mock-ups, in-shop work areas or facilities.

Using a wide variety of test equipment including oscilloscopes, phase meters, tachometers, digital multi-meters and signal generators.

Identifying and replacing faulty components including integrated circuits, resistors, transformers, inductors and other electrical and electronic devices.

Reading and interpreting sketches, blueprints, drawings, work orders, and process instructions.

• You will set the pace and instruct employees on proper work procedures, use of tools, and safety pertaining to shop trade skills and shipboard electrical systems.
• You will relay supervisor's instructions to Electronic Industrial Controls Mechanics and apprentices in assigned work group.
• You will verify work is done in accordance with accepted procedures and/or instructions.
• You will answer questions of other workers on procedures, policies, written instructions and other directives.
