Summary

This job involves working as an electronic equipment mechanic at Hoover Dam, where you'll inspect, repair, test, and maintain various electrical and electronic systems that help manage water resources and power generation in the American West.

Key Requirements

  • Sufficient experience and training to perform duties with minimal supervision, including at least 2 points on screen-out elements and an average of 2 points on all job elements per OPM standards
  • Current, valid driver's license (selective placement factor; proof required)
  • Knowledge of electronic and electrical theory, including Ohm's Law, series/parallel circuits, Kirchhoff's Law, 3-phase power, logic circuits, AC/DC resistance capacitance, circuit analysis, and transistor theory
  • Ability to inspect, install, test, adjust, calibrate, repair, modify, and maintain electrical metering, control equipment, relays, meters, and monitors
  • Skill in analyzing equipment failures, locating faults, and interpreting electrical/electronic drawings to suggest improvements
  • Experience planning work sequences, selecting tools/materials, and obtaining clearances for maintenance on energized or out-of-service equipment like transformers and generators
  • All eligibility and qualification requirements must be met by January 21, 2026

Reclamation is seeking a career professional looking for an opportunity to capitalize on their expertise as a Electronic Equipment Mechanic.

You can make a difference in the West by assisting in meeting increasing water demands while protecting the environment.

Duty Location: Bureau of Reclamation, Lower Colorado Basin Region, Lower Colorado Dams Office, Comm & Test Group located at the Hoover Dam, in Clark County, NV.

You must meet all Eligibility and Qualification requirements, including any selective placement factors if applicable, by 01/21/2026. Major Duties:

Inspecting, installing, testing, adjusting, calibrating, repairing, modifying, and maintaining temperature monitors, load and frequency controllers, voltage regulators, interposing control relays, generator protective relays, various indicating, integrating, and graphic meters, revenue meters, and various other types of electrical metering and control equipment.

Analyzing equipment failures, locating faults, and informing operating and maintenance personnel of findings.

Arranging to conduct tests on energized equipment which cannot be taken out of service, such as control boards and switch gear.

Applying knowledge of electronic and electrical theory such as Ohm's Law, series and parallel circuits, Kirchhoff's Law, 3-phase power, logic circuits, AC & DC resistance capacitance, circuit analysis and transistor theory.

Interpreting drawings of existing and proposed generating plant electrical and electronic equipment, and suggests changes, corrections, or improvements.

Repairing a variety of complex electronic and electrical equipment.

Obtains clearances to remove transformers, generators, and other electronic and electrical equipment from service before conducting maintenance, repair, or tests.

Planning work sequences, selecting tools and materials needed to complete assignments.
