Requirements
This position performs professional research, design, development, and testing of complex and highly technical electronic systems and associated networks, in support of the operation and maintenance of the Washington State Patrol communications infrastructure.
This position deals primarily with the transport of data and voice information over a statewide microwave system.
This includes, but is not limited to: Microwave path analysis, microwave radio and antenna systems, communication site power and grounding, and data transport systems.
This position is designated inventory officer for the ESD Microwave Radio Asset inventory.
Our new teammate will be able to:
- Prepare system designs for new and upgraded digital microwave communications infrastructure and ensure alignment with the agency direction and goals.
- Review system change requests for compliance with agency design standards.
- Interface directly with ESD and agency staff, system partners, and service vendors to ensure optimal technical and operational system performance.
- Consultant to internal and external partners to ensure all WSP site requirements are met.
- Research new site locations and equipment needs for expanded microwave service.
- Perform microwave path calculations for antenna and feed line requirements.
- Coordinate development schedule, manpower requirements, cost estimates and procurement efforts with Engineering support and Field Support staff.
- Ensure microwave frequency coordination, FCC licensing, and site documentation are completed.
- Review FCC rules and regulations and maintain coordination and licensing protocols.
- Research, compile, and interpret data as needed to develop design criteria and standards.
- Write and originate instructions, test procedures, and technical maintenance documents for service and operational personnel.
- Coordinate testing procedures with Field Support.
- Update and maintain all required documentation and records to reflect current system status.
- Act as inventory officer for microwave radio system spare parts.
- Monitor stock and submit order requests for commonly used items.
- Ensure all invoices are verified and submitted to the fiscal section in a timely manner.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:- A Bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics or physics.
Four or more years of experience in the design and implementation of radio frequency (VHF, UHF, and microwave) communications systems, FCC Licensing rules and regulations, and use of modern circuit and system design tools.
Additional experience and/or technical training in electronics or electrical engineering may be substituted for educational requirements on a year for year basis.
