Education and Experience: A High school diploma or GED or higher and completion of Journey Electrician Training, plus four (4) years journey level experience, including at least two (2) years in a supervisor capacity.

Licenses and Certificates: City of El Paso Master Electrician License. Valid Texas Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent issued by another state.

Special Requirements: Positions requiring a CDL or a safety sensitive nature are subject to drug and alcohol testing in accordance with federal regulations.

Requirements

Under general supervision, plan, assign, coordinate, supervise and participate in activities of subordinates performing maintenance, repair, construction, installation and inspection of various of electrical systems and ensure compliance with applicable electrical safety codes and standards.

Qualifications

Direct and perform installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems.

Involves: Plan wiring and installation of equipment and fixtures such as pumps, motors, generator, switches, control devices, circuit breakers and fuse boxes.

Coordinate construction activities for new or modified high and low voltage electrical system by ensuring that sufficient staff, tools and supplies are scheduled for work sites.

Review work of department and contracted personnel in installation, extension or repair of electrical system. Inspect for proper materials and workmanship standards.

Resolve disagreements between subordinate electrician and contractor. Produce electrical schematic drawings for remote control circuits and other devices.

Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs. Involves: Review and analyze electrical equipment documentation and service history.

Prepare preventative maintenance work schedules for assigned personnel and electrical equipment.

Improve electrical systems reliability and extend equipment's serviceable life and reduce electrical hazards.

Ensure department compliance with safety codes. Involves: Examine construction plans and specifications for conformance with municipal and related electrical codes and regulations.

Inform management of undesirable layouts, materials, and equipment and provide recommendations for code compliance.

Review subordinate's and contractor's work for code compliance and verify that appropriate corrective action is taken.

Perform field inspections and other audits for adherence to proper materials and workmanship standards.

Participate in acquisition decision making for electrical equipment. Involves: Confer with management and professional engineers on proposed electrical installations.

Recommend corrections in electrical systems following damage by fire, equipment failure or other causes.

Review plans and specifications for proposed and existing electrical systems and recommend modifications and improvements compatible with existing systems and practices.

Supervise assigned personnel. Involves: Schedule, assign, instruct, guide, check and evaluate work. Arrange for or engage employee in training and development.

Enforce personnel rules and regulations, standards of conduct, work attendance, and safe work practice. Ensure adherence to applicable regulatory and departmental standards.

Counsel, motivate, and maintain harmonious work relationships among subordinates. Recommend staff and employee status changes. Interview applicants and recommend selection.

Perform miscellaneous duties. Involves: Prepare purchase requisitions. Maintain spare parts supply Maintain time sequence control and telemetering channel record. Maintain other applicable records and reports. Perform related technical duties as required.
