Full Job Description

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Department of General Services (DGS), Maintenance Division is looking for a motivated Electrician 1 to assist in maintaining facilities at the Capitol Complex and outlying buildings. Requirements

As an Electrician for DGS, you will be responsible for the performance and accountability of assigned work activities relating to the installation, maintenance and repair of a wide range of electrical items.

Maintaining a current working knowledge of the National Electrical Code standards is essential.

Work includes locating and correcting power failures and short circuits, effective use of electrical meters and devices in day-to-day performance of assigned electrical work, and following blueprints, drawing specifications and layout sketches.

You can expect to carry, erect and work from ladders, scaffolding, and lifts to heights of 40 feet.

You may have the opportunity to function as a lead worker over helpers assisting in various phases of work by assigning work, providing assistance, and reviewing the work for adherence to standards.

This position shovels and removes snow and ice from entrances, walkways and steps, spreads deicing agents, and operates spreaders and snow blowers.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Essential Employee - Required to work during emergencies and office closings.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the Electrician Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Four years of experience installing, repairing, and maintaining electrical systems, components, and equipment; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.


Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of a valid license as a journey-level electrician issued by the City of Harrisburg.
  • This position requires possession of an active motor vehicle license.


Additional Requirements:

  • You must be willing and able to work in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.


Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Formal training in a high school or vocational program, apprenticeship, or post high school technical program in the Electrical trade
  • Electrical experience in the commercial or industrial setting
  • Experience in reading and interpreting blueprints
  • Experience with 3 phase electrical systems
  • Experience working with voltages up to and including 480V
  • Experience as a lead worker on an electrical project and/or job
  • Experience in snow removal with plows, snow blowers, or other snow removal equipment
  • This job occasionally requires working at heights. Willingness and ability to work from ladders, scaffolding, bucket trucks or man lifts
