Job Description

Summary

This job involves traveling across several counties in Southwest Michigan to inspect new electrical installations, ensure they meet state rules and safety standards, and review building plans for compliance.

Key Requirements

  • Ability to become registered as an electrical inspector and plan reviewer under Act 407 of 2016
  • Willingness to travel and cover counties including Ottawa, Allegan, Van Buren, Kalamazoo, Berrien, Cass, and Saint Joseph

Full Job Description


The Bureau of Construction Codes (BCC) is filling an Electrical Inspector E11 position located in Southwest Michigan. This position will cover the following counties: Ottawa, Allegan, VanBuren, Kalamazoo, Berrien, Cass, and Saint Joseph.

This position is responsible for the inspection of new electrical installations to determine compliance with applicable laws, rules, and standards, to order necessary corrections when violations are identified, and to regulate persons performing electrical work. Responsibilities also include disseminating information to permit holders, attending training seminars, and maintaining records and reports. In addition, this position will review plans and specifications for new construction, alterations, and premanufactured units.
