Full Job Description

The primary purpose of this position is to repair defective electrical wiring, controls, equipment, and fixtures in visitor centers, offices, ranger stations, museums, collection storage facilities, hotels, restaurants, maintenance facilities, public buildings, employee housing areas, residences, restrooms, campgrounds, ships, boats, trains, garages, and/or shops.

The incumbent is required to adhere to all applicable electrical safety codes and standards.

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT) Ability To Use and Maintain Hand Tools (Electrical Work) Ability To Use Electrical Drawings Knowledge of Electrical Equipment Technical Practices (theoretical precise, artistic) Theory and Instruments (Electrical, Electronic) Used in Shop and Trade Practices Trouble shooting (electrical) SCREENOUT: Have experience, with close supervision, performing the duties which includes performing journeyman level electrical work including a wide range of commercial, industrial, residential and new construction services and repair; repairing and replacing broken, worn, damaged or poorly operating wiring, fixtures, controls and equipment; using test instruments such as ammeters, meggers, and test lamps; trouble shooting and repairing difficult electrical problems such as intermittent, open or shorted circuits; applying a knowledge of electrical theory and a working knowledge of the National Electrical Code; reading, interpreting, and utilizing blueprints, wiring diagrams, sketches, and drawings used in the electrical trade; using a variety of electrical equipment, tools, and test equipment; using formulas basic to the electrical trade; and using a variety of electrical equipment, tools, and test equipment.

You will perform the following duties: Repairs defective electrical wiring, controls, equipment, and fixtures Adheres to all applicable electrical safety codes and standards Removes, replaces, tightens, splices, solders, and insulates defective wiring, controls, equipment, and fixtures.

Maintains electrical wiring and associated fixtures, controls, and equipment Follows all standard safety procedures, wearing all applicable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) associated with the job.

Cut-off Dates: This is an open continuous announcement, in which applications are collected over several months, and have multiple cut-off dates.

Park Information: Isle Royale National Park is a large, remote and isolated island in northwestern Lake Superior.

Isle Royale is located approximately 70 miles north of the park's administrative headquarters in Houghton, MI.

Isle Royale is 99% federally designated Wilderness, with numerous lakes and native wildlife such as moose and wolves, the park offers a superb setting for recreational opportunities such as boating, kayaking, canoeing, backpacking, camping, fishing, hiking and more.

The incumbent will be stationed on the island. There are no roads, no cell phone coverage, limited amenities and limited opportunity to travel to the mainland.

Internet access for personal business on government computers is permitted during non-business hours.

Groceries and other supplies are delivered weekly or bi-weekly depending on the incumbent's specific duty station on the island.
