Advertised Job Summary

The Molinaroli College of Engineering and Computing (MCEC ) at the University of South Carolina (USC ) in Columbia is seeking qualified applicants for a Professional Track Faculty Instructor position to support the Department of Electrical Engineering.

This is an 11-month renewable appointment full-time, non-tenure earning instructor position with an anticipated start date of August 2026.

USC is a Flagship, R1 research university experiencing sustained growth in number of students and research.

The Molinaroli College of Engineering and Computing has seven academic departments with over 40 academic programs, more than 3,600 undergraduate students, and received over $73m of competitive federal sponsored research awards in 2025.

MCEC received a transformational gift naming the college in 2024 and is on a bold trajectory to continue its rapid rise in elevating student excellence, scholarly impact, and drive economic impact in South Carolina and across the US.

The selected candidate will teach courses in the department. This will be a full-time academic load, which normally consists of three courses per semester during the academic year.

However, teaching load can potentially be reduced to 2 courses per semester when the instructor is involved in teaching Capstone Design courses.

In that case, as the Capstone Senior Design class instructor you will be responsible for new project design in collaboration with industry/government/other USC programs while with effectively guiding and mentoring the students in executing Capstone Design projects in a timely manner.

Additional responsibilities include collecting and analyzing ABET assessment data, reporting them, and contributing to continuous quality improvement.

The instructor will also assist the department chair and other faculty members in the department in preparing and disseminating outreach materials to recruit prospective undergraduate students.

She/he is also expected to participate in student recruitment efforts e.g., hosting student visits, tutorials etc.

Other responsibilities include maintaining regular office hours, conducting required academic performance assessments, and the development of instructional materials to improve courses and student learning experiences.
