The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Wildlife Conservation is recruiting

for an Education Associate 3 located in Bethel, Kotzebue, or Nome, Alaska!


What You Will Be Doing:

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game’s Division of Wildlife Conservation is seeking a dynamic and experienced educator to lead the design and delivery of education and outreach initiatives for the Wildlife Education and Outreach Program.

In this role, you will collaborate with regional wildlife biologists and management staff to identify and address education and outreach needs for diverse audiences, including community members, hunters, teachers, students, and other specialized groups.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement local, regional, and statewide programs and materials that promote wildlife education and conservation.
  • Create engaging content across multiple platforms, including science lectures, outdoor skills classes, community events, newspaper articles, digital and print media, radio and video productions, and social media.
  • Represent the division in working groups and foster partnerships with other agencies and organizations to produce and distribute public outreach materials on wildlife management issues.

The Working Environment You Can Expect:

The position, based in Nome, Bethel, or Kotzebue, serves as the Education Associate for Region 5.

In this role, you will work collaboratively with area and regional staff, as well as education program staff across the state.

The position involves occasional travel to communities throughout the region and requires regular interaction with the public.

We are interested in candidates who possess some or all of the following position specific competencies:

  • Education and Training: Knowledge of teaching, training, research, making presentations, lecturing, testing, and other instructional methods.

  • Communications and Media: Knowledge of the production, communication and dissemination of information and ideas to inform and entertain via written, oral, and visual media and social media.

  • Wildlife Biology: Knowledge of the concepts, principles, and theories of wildlife, including classification, taxonomy, population dynamics, distribution, habitat requirements, life histories, reproduction, behaviors, conservation, and care of wildlife.

  • Oral and Written Communication: Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral and written presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.

  • Manages and Organizes Information: Identifies a need; gathers, organizes, and maintains information; determines its importance and accuracy, and communicates it by a variety of methods.

Special Note:
A valid driver's license is required.

Requirements

(1) Graduation from an accredited college, preferably in administration and/or education. AND One year of experience as an Education Associate 2 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.

OR

(2) Six years of experience in the broad field of education, counseling or administrative services, two years of which were at the technical/paraprofessional.

OR

(3) Any combination of the above.

Substitution: In option 2, graduate study may be substituted for the required specialized experience on a year-for-year basis. Undergraduate study, preferably in administration and/or education may also substitute for the generalized experience in option 2 on a year-for-year basis.
