This job involves helping people apply for and qualify for government aid programs like food stamps, Medicaid, and emergency help by interviewing them over the phone or in person, reviewing their financial details, and managing their cases.
Workers also connect clients to other support services and handle any mistakes in benefits.
It's a good fit for someone organized, empathetic, and comfortable working with the public in a social services role.
Under general supervision, perform at the full performance level in processing applications, ascertaining eligibility for, and overseeing a caseload for a variety of economic assistance programs including, but not limited to SNAP, various Medicaid programs, Emergency Assistance/LIEAP, and School Clothing Vouchers.
Schedule telephone and face-to-face interviews. Competently conduct personal interviews with clients regarding their personal, financial, and social information.
Determine eligibility for services, maintain an up-to-date client caseload, and refer clients to various supportive services and agencies when needed.
May obtain repayment from clients who have been issued benefits erroneously. Performs related work as required.
