Job Description

Summary

This job involves leading a team of therapists at a state psychiatric hospital, where you'll supervise staff, train them in behavioral support techniques, and help develop programs to promote patient independence and safety.

Full Job Description

The Washington State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) is seeking a Therapies Supervisor to join our team at Western State Hospital (WSH), a psychiatric hospital, as a part of our Behavioral Management Team (BMT).

As Therapies Supervisor, you will be responsible for directing and training Behavioral Health Specialist 3s in providing behavioral and clinical support.

You'll provide technical assistance in program development, and promote client habilitation, independence and safety, while effectively providing supervision to staff members who are providing training and therapy in groups and individual counseling to clients.

This opportunity is for swing shift.

Opportunities performed on-site may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary.

Pierce County employees are eligible to receive an Orca Card for transportation needs.

Some of what you’ll do:

  • Provide supervision to assigned staff and provide work schedule assignments
  • Train assigned staff in therapeutic interventions
  • Model interventions and provide coaching, training and support
  • Identify barriers to interventions
  • Ensure effective communication within the BMT
  • Ensure staff completes all required documentation
  • Provide micro-training to referring ward treatment teams
  • Collect data regarding patient responses
  • Complete assigned trainings

Who we’re looking for:
A bachelor's degree involving major study in occupational therapy, physical therapy, hospital recreation, manual arts, vocational counseling, or psychiatric social work
AND
Five years of professional experience in a therapy program, including two years in administration and direction of professional staff.

OR

Nine years of professional experience in a therapy program, including two years in administration and direction of professional staff.

A master's degree in the areas of study listed above will substitute for two years of non-administrative experience.

Note: Occupational therapy majors must possess registration with the National Registry of Occupational Therapy; physical therapy majors must possess a certificate of registration issued upon the recommendation of the Washington State Examining Committee of Physical Therapists.
