Food Service Supervisor 2

Step into a role where your cooking skills and leadership can truly help others. We’re looking for a Food Service Supervisor 2 to join the team at the Special Commitment Center (SCC) in Steilacoom, Washington—a secure residential facility for adults.

Here, your skills shape more than meals—they support people’s well-being.

You’ll run a fast-paced kitchen, guide and supervise a team, and help create meals that meet the unique needs of the people we serve.

Every day, your work will directly support health, dignity, and safety.Some of what you'll do:

  • Supervise, train, and assign staff and resident workers in daily food production while maintaining order and discipline, including intervening during emergencies using approved techniques.
  • Oversee kitchen operations in the absence of management, including meal preparation, loading, and documentation, and ensuring timely food cart deliveries.
  • Ensure compliance with sanitation, safety, and equipment usage standards while addressing supply needs and managing inventory.
  • Coordinate and adjust menus as necessary to address food shortages, staffing issues, and residents’ special dietary needs.
  • Conduct daily meetings, complete staff and resident evaluations, and manage leave schedules with Food Manager approval.
  • Handle inquiries related to resident meals, special diets, and events, ensuring proper communication and resolution of issues.
  • Perform administrative tasks, including completing daily forms, maintaining records, and other duties as assigned.

Additional information:
  • SCC employees also receive an additional $10 per day premium pay in addition to advertised salary and a free ORCA card for transportation use.
  • Ferry transportation is provided to McNeil Island employees.
  • Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary.

Who should apply?
Professionals that meet one of the below criteria:
  • Four or more years of experience in industrial, commercial, or institutional food service or patient tray service, including at least one year in a lead or supervisory role. As well as a high school diploma or GED certificate or equivalent.
OR
  • Associate degree in food service management, nutritional care, or a related field, AND at least one year of food service supervisory experience.
OR
  • Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in restaurant or hotel management, or a closely related field.

Additional knowledge, skills and abilities we are looking for:
  • Food service knowledge – You understand how to safely cook and serve food in large amounts.
  • Leadership – You can teach, guide, and supervise a team while keeping things calm and respectful.
  • Safety awareness – You follow safety and cleanliness rules and can spot when something might go wrong.
  • Communication skills – You explain tasks clearly and can talk with staff, residents, and supervisors in a helpful way.
  • Adaptability – You can adjust quickly when there are changes in staff, menus, or supplies.
  • Record-keeping – You can complete paperwork and track supplies accurately and on time.
  • Problem-solving – You can find solutions when schedules shift or food deliveries fall short.
