Summary

This job involves leading a vocational training program at a secure facility on McNeil Island, where you'll help residents with personality disorders build job skills through training, oversight, and coordination with staff and treatment teams.

DSHS SCC Adult Training Specialist 3

The vocational training programs are some of the most effective resources we have to help rehabilitate our residents.

As the Adult Training Specialist 3, you will lead and provide oversight for our Vocational Program at the Special Commitment Center (SCC) - Total Confinement Facility on McNeil Island.

You will provide oversight of Adult Training Specialist 2, train staff, manage resident timecards, and serve as the liaison across the facility for identifying, creating, and assisting in training to help support residents increase vocational skills.

SCC employees also receive an additional $10 per day premium pay in addition to advertised salary and a free ORCA card for transportation use.

Ferry transportation is provided to McNeil Island employees.

Opportunities performed on site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary.

Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:00pm or 6:00am-2:00pm. Some of what you'll do:

  • Manage, in coordination with the Therapies Supervisor, a vocational budget for needed work aids and resources for residents participating in the Vocational Program.
  • Consult with residents and treatment team to evaluate vocational opportunities based on residents’ interests, skill level, qualifications, and treatment needs.
  • Oversee the Vocational Program.
  • Lead in determining the implementation of job specifications, work hours, schedules, and managing of the vocational budget.
  • Create or revise job descriptions for Vocational program as needed or directed.
  • Conduct formal interview processes in order to prepare residents for future interviews.
  • Provide feedback and status updates of the program.
  • Develop and/or maintain timesheets for existing and newly created positions.
  • Document resident's attendance and conduct performance reviews of resident work.
  • Train residents in areas needed for job performance through one to one training sessions and regular professional development group training sessions as directed by the Therapies Supervisor.
  • Facilitate provided industrial safety training and food handlers classes.
  • Maintain tracking data for resident timecards and work certifications.

What we're looking for:

  • General computer skills, including an adequate understanding of Microsoft Outlook and Word.
  • Knowledge, understanding, and/or some experience working with individuals with severe and persistent personality disorders.


Who should apply?
Professionals who possess a high school diploma or GED and completion of 30 specific job-related college credit hours, or an associate or bachelor's degree in the Human Services field.

OR

Two years as a vocational trainer of persons with disabilities in a community employment program or sheltered workshop;

OR

Two years as a teacher's aide in a special education classroom;

OR

Three years’ experience as an Attendant Counselor.

NOTE: An Affiliated Counselor Credential must be obtained through the Washington State Department of Health for all Department of Clinical Services staff members who do not have a related license, including the Adult Training Specialist position. The Affiliated Counselor Credential is required for continued employment in this position and must be obtained at the employee’s own expense.
