Job Description

Summary

This job involves working as a direct support professional at a residential center, helping adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities by assisting with daily personal care, teaching life skills, and ensuring their safety and well-being in a supportive home-like setting.

Key Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Ability to provide personal care assistance, including hygiene, grooming, bathing, and toileting
  • Skills in coaching, teaching, and mentoring to promote independence and daily living skills
  • Proficiency in documenting care, reporting changes in condition or behavior, and following regulations to prevent abuse or neglect
  • Capability to transport residents to appointments and activities, and support those with complex care needs
  • Washington State Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification (preferred but not required)

DSHS Lakeland Village - Attendant Counselor 1/Direct Support Professional

Lakeland Village Residential Habilitation Center has immediate openings for Direct Support Professionals on all shifts. In this role, you’ll coach, teach, and mentor adults in a supportive, home-like environment alongside a team dedicated to making a difference. You’ll follow Intermediate Care Facility (ICF) and Nursing Home regulations as part of an interdisciplinary team, promoting quality care and preventing abuse or neglect.

Some of what you will do:
  • Assist adults with personal care needs, including hygiene, grooming, bathing, and toileting.
  • Provide direct care, support, and individualized training tailored to each resident.
  • Actively engage residents in learning opportunities that promote independence and daily living skills.
  • Support individuals with complex care needs through compassionate and consistent intervention.
  • Accompany and transport residents to on- and off-campus appointments and recreational activities.
  • Accurately document care provided and report any changes in condition or behavior.

Who should apply?
  • Professionals with a High School Diploma/GED OR one year of experience working with people with Intellectual/developmental Disabilities.
  • An existing Washington State Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification is a plus but not required.
Additional information:
  • Evening and Night shifts include a shift differential in addition to the standard compensation rate.

  • Opportunities performed on site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary.


Upcoming start dates:
If hired, New Employee Orientation (NEO) will begin in February 2026.
