DSHS FTAA Maintenance Mechanic 1


We are hiring for a Maintenance Mechanic to join our hard-working Maintenance and Operations Division (MOD) team serving Eastern State Hospital and Lakeland Village.


The Maintenance Mechanic will perform general maintenance, repair, remodeling, and construction duties utilizing working knowledge of several related skill fields such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry, welding, painting, and machinist work.

You will inspect, repair, install and maintain physical facilities, locks, and maintain and repair machinery and equipment.


Note:
  • The schedule for this position is Sunday through Thursday, 8:30 PM to 7:00 AM (four 10-hour night shifts).
  • Evening and Night shifts include a shift differential in addition to the standard compensation rate.
  • Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary.

Some of what you'll do:
  • Serve as a general repairer when a journey-level tradesperson is not immediately available.
  • Carry out a wide range of semi-skilled maintenance tasks requiring basic knowledge across multiple trades.
  • Work independently on routine maintenance assignments or under the technical guidance of journey-level staff.
  • Perform semi-skilled maintenance, repair, remodeling, alteration, and construction work on buildings, grounds, facilities, and equipment.
  • Support journey-level trades workers in carpentry, plumbing, welding, metal fabrication, steam fitting, electrical, HVAC, mechanical, and machinist tasks.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment to complete minor repairs on fixtures, plumbing, heating, laundry, kitchen equipment, motors, and electrical appliances.
  • Assist in fabricating equipment and materials in trade shops according to project specifications.
  • Maintain, repair, and make small modifications to building plumbing systems including sinks, faucets, toilets, water heaters, irrigation, and related pumping equipment.
  • Maintain and repair low-voltage electrical systems and mechanical fixtures across facility equipment such as HVAC, lighting, laundry, kitchen, grounds, and security systems.
  • Follow all required safety rules, procedures, and precautions during maintenance and MOD-related activities.

Who should apply?

  • High school graduation or GED.

  • A valid state driver's license is required.

  • Two years of general work experience in building and equipment maintenance, construction, or repair work.


Preferred knowledge, skills, & abilities:

  • Experience driving and operating a variety of vehicles and equipment such as trucks and vans.

  • Knowledge of standard practices, methods, materials, tools and equipment for mechanical trades.

  • Respectful and knowledgeable about safety precautions.

  • Be able to lift 50lbs.

  • Basic computer skills.

  • Understands the importance of record keeping.

  • Ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints, plans and sketches. Estimate materials and personnel needed to complete project.
