DSHS Fircrest Registered Nurse 4

We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse 4 to join our team at Fircrest Residential Habilitation Center in Shoreline, WA.

In this leadership role, you will oversee the delivery of nursing services for approximately 200 adults and children with intellectual disabilities, ensuring high-quality, person-centered care.

Reporting to the Program Area Team (PAT) Director, you will supervise and support nursing staff, lead quality assurance efforts, coordinate client care, and promote consistent, safe nursing practices across all shifts.

Your work will be vital in maintaining a supportive and effective nursing environment that enhances the health and well-being of the individuals we serve.

Some of what you'll do:

  • Supervise and support nursing staff, including hiring, training, performance evaluations, coaching, and corrective action
  • Lead weekly nursing meetings and monitor staff performance across shifts to ensure consistent care and procedures
  • Audit client nursing notes, provide feedback, and participate in quality assurance efforts including goal development and reviews
  • Attend client care planning meetings and medication reviews to support coordination and quality of care
  • Participate in daily staffing discussions to ensure adequate shift coverage and oversee attendance and timekeeping
  • Review incident reports, investigate events, assess nursing response, and develop corrective action plans
  • Observe nursing practices across all shifts to ensure compliance with protocols and identify improvement opportunities
  • Act on behalf of the Program Director as needed and perform other duties as assigned

About Fircrest Residential Habilitation Center
Fircrest RHC, located in Shoreline just north of Seattle, provides residential support to approximately 200 individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Established in 1959, Fircrest has evolved from a medical model to a person-centered approach that focuses on promoting independence and community integration. The center offers specialized nursing care and habilitative services funded in part by programs regulated by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Fircrest’s location provides residents access to major medical and educational facilities, as well as opportunities to engage in a variety of cultural, sporting, and outdoor activities in the Seattle area.



What we're looking for:

  • Strong leadership and communication skills to effectively supervise nursing staff, provide direction, and deliver timely feedback
  • Proficiency in observing, evaluating, and providing guidance on nursing practices and techniques
  • Thorough understanding of state and federal regulations related to professional nursing in long-term care and facility operations
  • Familiarity with collective bargaining agreements and the ability to apply them appropriately in a unionized environment
  • Knowledge of abuse, neglect, exploitation, and abandonment indicators, with the ability to report per mandatory reporting requirements and agency policy
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals who have intellectual disabilities, mental health diagnoses, and exhibit challenging behaviors
  • Clear and effective oral and written communication skills related to client care, documentation, and professional collaboration
  • Ability to collaborate with internal teams and external regulatory agencies, including participation in surveys, audits, and investigations
  • Skill in conducting thorough and timely investigations while adhering to due process and just cause standards
Who should apply?
We are looking for professionals with:
  • Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing
    AND
  • At least four years of professional nursing experience, including two years in a lead or supervisory role
Notes: A Bachelor’s degree or higher in nursing may substitute for two years of nonsupervisory nursing experience. One year of full-time nursing teaching experience may substitute for one year of supervisory experience. Applicants must have a valid Washington State license to practice as a registered, professional nurse.

  • Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary
