Summary

This job involves driving people who are blind or visually impaired to training sessions, appointments, and recreational activities to help them live more independently.

Full Job Description

We are seeking a reliable and responsible individual to join our team as a Driver. The Driver will play a crucial role in facilitating transportation for individuals who are blind or visually impaired to access various services, appointments, and activities. The ideal candidate will be compassionate, patient, and committed to providing safe and efficient transportation services.The mission of the SC Commission for the Blind (SCCB), established in 1966, is to provide quality individualized vocational rehabilitation services, independent living services, and prevention-of-blindness services to South Carolinians who are blind or visually impaired leading to competitive employment and social and economic independence. Our goal is to become a national model vocational rehabilitation agency for people who are blind and visually impaired, demonstrating quality services, accountability, innovation, effectiveness and efficiency.

We’re looking for a reliable and compassionate driver who takes pride in providing safe, timely, and courteous transportation for our consumers. This role is key in supporting access to essential training, agency services, and recreational opportunities. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, committed to vehicle safety, and willing to lend a hand with general maintenance and facility upkeep.   • Responsible for transporting consumers from their primary address to the specified locations for training, other agency related services and recreational activities.
  • Record accurate mileage in state vehicle logbook when operated in order to complete assigned job tasks. In addition, maintain regular inspection of vehicle.
  • Assist, when needed, with the cleaning and upkeep of the training center to include supplies and maintenance of all vehicles.

Requirements

Possess and maintain a valid South Carolina driver's license. At least 1-year of driving experience. Proficiency using GPS device.

Additional Requirements:
Knowledge of or ability to understand state laws or practices pertaining to the operation of vehicles on state highway. Ability to effectively communicate verbally and written and keep accurate documentation. This person must be able to work as part of a team and apply reasonable sound judgement in all situations. Exhibit courtesy and professionalism towards others at all times. Reports directly to the transportation supervisor. Under limited supervision, the employee maintains the principles, practices and policies of the SC Commission for the Blind. Must be available on weekends, mornings, evenings, and overnight. Regularly works in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat, and humidity. Must be able to move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue. Constant movement and use of limbs, coordination, and stamina. Requires constant sitting while operating a vehicle.
