Within 6 months of hire, the person in this position must be able to work with a wide variety of consumers with disabilities and must have and/or develop an understanding of a wide variety of physical, mental, visual and emotional disabilities, as well as complete and obtain the initial Certified Driving Instructor (CDI) certification.
Individuals who already possess a DRP, CDRS or Teacher Certification in Driver Education/Safety are also eligible to apply.
This individual, under the supervision of a Certified Driver Rehabilitation Specialist (CDRS), will travel statewide and overnight to provide driver training, learners permit training, and other services.
Under direct supervision of the CDRS, they will participate in the provision of driving evaluations, vehicle modification evaluations, and training.
This individual will be required to produce timely, accurate, detailed professional reports; maintain a knowledge of current trends and issues in driver rehabilitation through self-research and resources such as attending the ADED (The Association for Driver Rehabilitation Specialist) conference and other training.
This person(s) will keep abreast of issues related to vehicle modifications, including following updates by NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration), the WV Division of Motor Vehicles and equipment vendors, and current Bioptic and Low Vision driving laws.
This person(s) will maintain good working relationships with adaptive equipment vendors, the WV DMV, field counselors and other entities involved in the client's progress towards the driving goal.
This person(s) will adhere to the State of WV rules and regulations regarding travel, expenses, and other related items.
This person will present to community groups regarding our services; this may include having a basic knowledge of services outside of their primary area.
Additionally, this person provides other services such as review of quotes, participation in agency projects, and other duties as assigned.
This is a year-round position; individuals must have the ability to study and pass the Certified Driver Rehabilitation Specialist Certification within approximately three to five years of hire; and the ability to do extensive statewide and overnight travel.
Due to the certification requirements to become a Certified Driver Rehabilitation Specialist, the successful candidate must have one of the following degrees: An associate's degree or higher from an accredited college or university with a major in Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech Language Pathology, Nursing, Kinesiotherapy, Therapeutic Recreational Therapy, or Exercise Physiology.
OR A bachelor's degree in social work, Vocational Rehabilitation, Health and Physical Education, Counseling, Psychology, Special Education, Education, or Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement.
The individual's driving record will be obtained. We are a drug-free workplace. This position requires the individual to be drug and alcohol free. This position requires a valid WV driver's license.
