The Department of Transportation is on the lookout for a Driver License Examiner who will play a vital role in enhancing highway safety.
This position involves conducting standardized tests to assess the skills of both commercial (CDL) and non-commercial driver license applicants.
Additionally, when not administering tests, you will assist customers at the Driver License Center, focusing on verifying identity documents to prevent identity theft and fraud.

In this position, you will assess the physical and driving qualifications of applicants, as well as evaluate the mechanical condition of vehicles to ensure they meet safety standards.
You will conduct various vision tests, including telebinocular and color perception assessments.
Additionally, you will administer knowledge exams for both non-commercial and commercial driver licenses to verify applicants' understanding of the Vehicle Code and traffic signs.
You will also perform pre-trip, skills, and driving tests in line with departmental guidelines, while checking applications and registrations for any signs of irregularities or fraud.
This includes verifying vehicle characteristics to ensure the correct tests are given and inspecting vehicles for compliance with safety features like inspection stickers and lights.
Moreover, you will review essential documents such as applications, birth certificates, Social Security cards, and other identification papers for authenticity.
By accessing various systems and databases, you will confirm the identity of applicants and their eligibility for a driver’s license or identification card, while also identifying potential fraud and preventing identity theft.
After processing test results and applications, you will issue driver licenses and identification cards to qualified individuals.
You will also provide information regarding renewals, duplicates, out-of-state transfers, motorcycle licenses, and the requirements for obtaining and maintaining a commercial driver's license, including any restrictions and endorsements.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
This position requires an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver’s License or equivalent and twenty-one years of age at the time of application.
This position requires no suspensions or revocations of a driver’s license during the five year period immediately preceding employment.
All employees in this job hired after February 28, 2022, are required to obtain an active unrestricted Class M driver’s license within the first six months of employment or before the end of the probationary period and maintain it during employment.
This position requires possession of an active Class A Pennsylvania Commercial Driver's License or equivalent with the following endorsements: P and N. The Commercial Driver License cannot have any of the following restrictions: E, L, N, O, or Z.
