Job Description

Summary

This role involves leading the development and testing of new technologies for naval expeditionary warfare, such as sensors and weapons, to quickly address military needs and improve operations at sea.

The person in this position will guide research efforts, collaborate with defense teams, and ensure prototypes are effectively transitioned to active use by the Navy and Marines.

It's ideal for a highly experienced engineer or scientist passionate about national defense, with a strong track record in integrating complex systems and rapid prototyping.

Full Job Description

You will serve as Distinguished Scientist/Engineer for Expeditionary Warfare (ExW) Prototyping Lead for NAVAL SURFACE WARFARE CENTER.

The Secretary of War has ordered a department-wide hiring freeze subject to certain limited exceptions. This position is subject to the DoD hiring freeze.

TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS (TQs): Your resume should demonstrate accomplishments that would satisfy the technical qualifications: TQ#1.

Engineering or Science background with sensor systems, weapon systems and systems-of-systems hardware and software integration in many product areas relevant to Expeditionary Warfare and experience integrating the products to meet broader naval and joint warfighting objectives.

TQ#2. Experience in rapid assessment of prototypes, systems and capabilities through digital mission analysis, live experimentation and facilitation in transition of capability to the Warfighter.

  • You will be the National Leader for Expeditionary Warfare rapid prototyping development and experimentation to address operational gaps/needs identified by resource sponsors, portfolio acquisition executives, program managers and operational forces.
  • You will guide Expeditionary Warfare Research and Development and Science and Technology efforts across the Warfare Center enterprise.
  • You will research Expeditionary Warfare mission gaps, challenges and issues to identify and prioritize areas in which Navy labs can work to provide technical solutions for support.
  • You will provide Joint planning and execution of prototyping, experimentation, and test events to enhance integrated and distributed maritime operations.
  • You will build relationships and advise senior level DoD, Navy, and Marine Corps technical and operational communities involved in the Expeditionary Warfare mission area.
  • You will provide planning, analysis and coordination for Warfare Center activities in support of Expeditionary Warfare Community of Practice.
