Full Job Description
This is a non-civil service position. The Digital Communications Associate plays a key role in visually communicating the priorities, events, and initiatives of the Mayor’s Office and the departments of Metro Nashville and Davidson County government. This position is responsible for pitching, writing, filming, scripting, editing, and delivering content across various social media and digital platforms. The Digital Communications Associate ensures timely and polished production of media assets and works closely with the Digital Communications Manager to produce daily assets. Candidates must demonstrate creativity, adaptability, and strong digital media skills. This position reports to the Deputy Communications Director, Operations.Mayoral staff (non-civil service) receive 15 days of Paid Time Off and 12 sick days annually.

Requirements
- Collaborate with and pitch creative, culturally relevant ideas to the communications team.
- Research topics and story angles relevant to the mayor’s messaging.
- Shoot b-roll, interviews, stories, mayor messages, press events, and photos as needed.
- Write questions, scripts, and captions for video segments and graphic ideation.
- Shoot and edit same day videos including captions for accessibility and clarity.
- Turn around content creation in a timely manner, ideally within 2-3 hours depending on complexity and scope, in general providing one shoot and one video per day.
- Route drafts to internal stakeholders for feedback and revisions.
- Ability to work under pressure and adapt quickly to changing priorities.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and ensure only appropriately vetted information is released.
- Professional demeanor and ability to communicate with multiple communities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Proficiency in video production, including camera operation and editing.
- Experience with multi-format cameras and editing software (Canva, CapCut, Adobe Premiere, Movavi, Final Cut Pro, etc.).
- Graphic design and/or animation experience.
- Strong understanding of brand guidelines and compliance.
- Strong writing and storytelling skills for visual media.
- Attention to detail with a commitment to quality and accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines (typically day-of deadlines).
- Strong interpersonal communication skills and ability to communicate internally by the minute during office hours.
- Professionalism and discretion when working with diverse stakeholders and sensitive information.
- Flexibility to work some after-hours and occasional weekends on an as needed basis.
Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.
Additional Information
Prior experience in journalism, video production, and/or communications preferred.
