Job Description

Summary

This role involves serving as the second-in-command for the Air Force's Security Forces, overseeing global teams focused on protecting bases, personnel, and assets while shaping security policies.

It requires leading large-scale operations, managing budgets, and partnering with other government and industry groups to strengthen national defense.

Ideal candidates are seasoned executives with deep experience in military security, strategic planning, and cross-agency collaboration.

Key Requirements

The primary purpose of this position is Serves as the Deputy Director, Security Forces, which is located in the Directorate of Security Forces (HQ AF/A4S), Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics, Engineering & Force Protection, HQ AF/A4, Headquarters United States Air Force.

Under the new process, at the initial application stage for Senior Executive Service (SES) positions, applicants are no longer required to submit lengthy narrative essays, including those for Executive Core Qualifications (ECQs).

Instead, the initial application will be resume-only, capped at two pages, streamlining the process to align with private industry practices.

However, candidates who are identified for potential selection will later undergo a structured interview assessment with OPM's Qualifications Review Board (QRB).

This interview, based on the new Executive Core Qualifications, will replace the previous narrative essay requirement at this subsequent stage of the hiring process.

Qualification Requirements: Your 2-page resume must demonstrate the Mandatory Technical Qualifications (MTQs) listed below.

Your resume should include examples of experience, education, and accomplishments to the qualifications.

A panel may assess whether you possess the required ECQs and MTQs through resume review, assessments, and/or interview. A. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 1.

Education Requirement: A master's or advanced degree in Management, Criminal Justice, Public Policy or related disciplines from an accredited institution is highly desired. B.

MANDATORY TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS (TQs): Applicants must reflect superior technical qualifications demonstrated through leadership and management in the following: 1.

Demonstrate strategic level experience leading large organizations with multi-functional disciplines, with superior knowledge and operational experience in force protection, including experience in controls, and metrics to develop policy capabilities as well as a possess a basic understanding of Security Forces business systems.

Proven executive level experience conducting financial management and analysis of Appropriated Funds for all aspects of PPBE: Operation and Maintenance; Research, Development, Test and Evaluation (RDT&E); Procurement; and Military Construction.

3. Integrating and collaborating enterprise-wide security and law enforcement activities and programs with other DoD components, federal agencies, industry, and academia.

In addition, DoW requires an Enterprise Perspective.

The individual must possess a broad point of view and an awareness and understanding of individual or organizational responsibilities in relation to DoW or government-wide strategic priorities.

Executives should demonstrate ability to work with internal and external partners to support national security objectives.

This perspective is typically gained through a variety of diverse work experiences. A separate narrative statement is not required--this information should be embedded within the resume.

Major Duties:

Serves as the Deputy Director for Security Forces - which is located within (AF/A4S) - and supports the Deputy Chief of Staff, Logistics, Engineering and Force Protection (AF/A4).

Provides executive leadership and direction, broad technical knowledge, and executive-level strategic continuity for all security forces and force protection programs.

Leads 37,000 members worldwide in security and law enforcement functions, responsible for protecting a total force population of 575,000 Active Duty, Air National Guard, and Air Force Reserve and overseeing all matters concerning the utilization, development, and career field management of the civilian security forces.

Responsibilities encompass the areas of anti-terrorism, force protection, physical security, nuclear security, law enforcement, investigations, working dogs, small arms and munitions, installation defense, and corrections/confinement.

The Deputy Director represents the Air Force in direct consultations and negotiations with federal agencies and state governments and influences national security policy, advising the Director of Security Forces on the current state of policy evolution within the Department of Defense and Joint communities.
