The Civil Division (Division) of the U.S.
Department of Justice (DOJ) is seeking an individual to serve as the Senior Executive Service (SES) Deputy Director of the Affirmative Litigation Section in the Enforcement & Affirmative Litigation Branch (EAL).
The EAL Branch brings high-impact affirmative litigation to protect public health and safety and ensure nationwide compliance with the Constitution and federal law.

For this position, the following Mandatory Technical Qualifications (MTQs) have been established and should be addressed within the resume application. MTQ1.
Demonstrated significant legal experience and expertise in civil affirmative litigation related to lawsuits against states, municipalities, and private entities that interfere with or obstruct federal policies, involving matters such as public benefits, immigration, energy independence, and agricultural standards, and violations against the Supremacy Clause.
MTQ2. Demonstrated significant experience in planning and oversight of the activities of a legal organization, including developing legal strategies to be utilized in U.S.
courts and providing sound and timely legal counsel at the highest levels. Major Duties:
The Deputy Director: Supervises and directs all Section attorneys and staff assigned to investigate, develop, and litigate civil affirmative cases referred to the Department by federal agency partners involved in protecting consumers.
Advises the Branch Director, Deputy Assistant Attorney General (DAAG), the Assistant Attorney General (AAG), and other DOJ leadership regarding litigation, policy, legislation, and administrative issues within the Branch's purview.
Works closely with case teams on all aspects of case strategy and planning, including reviewing and approving written pleading and briefs, mooting trial presentations and oral arguments, and advising on trial presentation and strategy.
Works closely with Division and Branch leadership to ensure that adequate resources are available to support case teams and program initiatives.
Represents EAL at Department and interagency committees and tasks forces, conferences and meetings with consumer and industry groups.
