Job Description

Summary

This job involves helping Michigan National Guard members access benefits like tuition assistance, health reimbursements, and childcare support by processing applications, answering questions, and managing related paperwork.

It also includes handling inventory, payroll during activations, and relief fund requests.

Key Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One year of administrative support experience equivalent to Departmental Technician 7 level in state service
  • For level 8: One year as a technician or paraprofessional at entry level, or Bachelor's degree substitution
  • For level E9: One year supervisory experience at 9-level, or two years as technician including one year intermediate, or Bachelor's plus one year related experience
  • Strong communication skills for interacting with service members and other departments
  • Knowledge of policies for programs like STAP, TPRP, CAP, and MFRF
  • Ability to perform preliminary reviews, process applications, reconcile inventory, and handle payroll

Full Job Description

This position will provide excellent customer service to our Michigan National Guard (MING) service members,
assisting them with applying for and using the member benefits programs available to them, including the State
Tuition Assistance Program (STAP), the Tricare Premium Reimbursement Program (TPRP), and the Childcare
Assistance Program (CAP). This position will communicate effectively with potential, new, and current MING
service members as well as other Directorates with an understanding of the current policies and procedures for
these programs. This position will perform a preliminary review and evaluation of program documentation,
process applications and answer inquiries regarding status of documentation. This position will also reconcile
armory inventory, process service member packets and payroll during MING activation missions, and process
Military Family Relief Fund (MFRF) applications.

Requirements

Education

Education typically acquired through completion of high school

Experience

Departmental Technician 7

One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 7-level in state service. 

Departmental Technician 8

One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 8-level in state service. 

OR 

One year of experience as a technician or paraprofessional equivalent to the entry level in state service. 

Departmental Technician E9

One year of experience as a supervisor of administrative support activities equivalent to the 9-level in state service. 

OR 

One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 9-level in state service. 

OR 

Two years of experience as a technician or paraprofessional, including one year of experience equivalent to the intermediate level in state service.

Qualifications

Departmental Technician 7 

Completion of two years of college (60 semester or 90 term credits) may be substituted for the experience requirement. 

Departmental Technician 8 

Possession of a Bachelor’s degree may be substituted for the experience requirement. 

Departmental Technician E9 

Possession of a Bachelor’s degree and one year of job-related experience may be substituted for the experience requirement.
