Full Job Description

To serve as Department Chair, and teach mathematics courses to a diverse student body using effective teaching strategies; develop, revise, and maintain course materials; recommend/design new programs; maintain office hours; participate in appropriate professional development opportunities; participate in College and community activities, promote the mission of the College; develop/implement retention strategies; assist in graduate placement; attend graduation ceremony; assist with student advising and registration; serve on College committees; promote institutional goals; assist with departmental administrative responsibilities. Teaching may be on any campus, or by distance learning, and may be days, nights, weekends or a combination.

TEACHING PERFORMANCE- present course material through a variety of appropriate and effective instructional strategies to facilitate the learning process.

INSTRUCTIONAL DEVELOPMENT - develop, revise, and maintain courses and curriculum through course objectives, outlines, and other appropriate instructional material. Recommend and assist with the design and development of new courses and/or programs.

INSTRUCTIONAL MANAGEMENT - maintain required office hours, exhibit effective classroom management and control, attempt new instructional strategies, and submit timely and accurate information and reports.

STUDENT ADVISEMENT - maintain current, accurate information on assigned advisees and assist with students' academic, professional, and, when applicable, personal development.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT - participate in activities designed to develop professional skills to maintain and improve proficiency.

COLLEGE AND/OR COMMUNITY SERVICE - participate in college activities and the promotion of the College and its programs through public service.

DEPARTMENT MANAGEMENT – The demonstration of effective planning, coordinating, and operating the department through scheduling and evaluating courses and instructors (full-time and part-time), budgeting, using advisory committees where applicable, and other duties necessary to maintain a quality instructional program.

Master's degree in mathematics, or a master's degree with 18 graduate semester hours in mathematics.



Qualifications

A minimum of 4 years of supervisory experience, and experience teaching at the secondary or post-secondary level, and providing academic advising at the post-secondary level.
