This job is for a dental hygienist in Baltimore County's health department, where you'll work under a dentist to clean teeth, educate patients on oral care, and support public health dental programs.
It's a good fit for someone with an associate degree in dental hygiene and a couple of years of hands-on patient experience who enjoys helping people maintain healthy smiles in a community setting.
Performs preliminary dental examinations of patients and records findings.Provides initial review of patient medical records.Performs prophylactic and preventive treatments prior to examination of patient by dentist.Sets up and closes out clinic rooms in accordance with established regulations.Takes radiographs and maintains dental records and charts.Provides oral hygiene instruction to patients on an individual basis.Assists in presenting oral hygiene instruction before groups.Examples of Other DutiesPerforms other related duties as required.(NOTE: The duties and responsibilities listed above are for the purpose of determining a common set of minimum qualifications for all positions in this class.

Qualifications Required QualificationsDental Accreditation of the American Dental Association with an associate in arts degree in dental hygienePlus Two years' experience in direct dental patient care.Licenses and CertificatesPossession of a valid license to practice dental hygiene issued by the Maryland State Board of Dental Examiners is required at the time of appointment.
Possession of an approved CPR certification is required at the time of appointment.
Possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a noncommercial, class C Maryland driver's license is required at the time of appointment.Proof of Licenses, Certifications and EducationApplicants are required to submit proof of licenses, certifications and education beyond high school to meet the required and preferred qualifications of the position.
Diplomas or transcripts must show the applicant’s major field of study.

Physical and Environmental ConditionsThe work of this classification includes the performance of physical activities such as walking, standing, bending, and the operation of dental instruments.
Incumbents may be required to travel to sites throughout Baltimore County.
