Full Job Description

You will serve as a DATA SCIENTIST in the RESOURCE MANAGEMENT DIVISION (RM1) of MILITARY SEALIFT COMMAND.

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience developing new approaches within data analytics to better understand trends and factors impacting efficiency, allowing the command to drive improvement.

Experience building statistical models to project programmatic resources necessary to meet mission requirements and support future funding requests during the Planning, Programming, Budgeting and Execution (PPBE) process.

Experience preparing and presenting analytical briefs/technical reports to senior-level leadership.

Experience developing, tracking, and analyzing key performance indicators at both the strategic and operational level.

Experience in utilizing tools and data to support the continuous process improvement methodology.

  • You will plan and define the context, parameters, methodology, and structure of the analysis.
  • You will provide forward-thinking proposals and recommendations to senior management and MSC executives/leadership.
  • You will cleanse large unstructured data and enable analytical capability and query the data to improve executive decision making.
  • You will use a variety of established analytical techniques and innovative methods of review, provide analytical support to other MSC directors in the areas of operations research, systems analysis, statistics, mathematics and economic analyses.
  • You will coordinate and participate in meetings, conferences, and briefings where metrics are reviewed and discussed.
  • You will identify potential projects and initiatives that can reduce cost, increase customer satisfaction, improve the quality, and timeliness of services in support of the mission.
  • You will maintain liaison with members of the MSC Data Science and Analytics Working Group as well as analysts outside the Command engaged in similar activities for mutual exchange of ideas and information.
